Class description

This class will explore healing justice as a vital component to our social change movements. We will engage symptoms of social trauma in our movements, such as burnout, disproportionate burdens of emotional labor, and internal conflict. Via somatic awareness practices, we will gently unpack how oppressive social conditions are internalized in our bodies. Then we will discuss how we can move beyond them to act more sustainably, and with greater agency in our work. Through artivism, we will illuminate what art does to deepen and expand our political imaginations. By reconnecting with our bodies and creatively envisioning a world beyond the boundaries of current political systems, we move from survival into transformative action. In this workshop, we seek to heal old wounds to make new worlds possible.
